These over-sized enclosed cases which are used in dioramas of object(s) or scene are specifically designed for allowing the light only in one angle, thus protecting the objects from direct light when placed within the large shadow boxes.
Such highly useful and elegant large shadow boxes are usually presented to military members on their retirement. These boxes will be handy in preserving many priceless objects such as medals and awards received during the military career, flags of the military services and country along with the final badge of rank.
There are many US companies which specialize in construction and/or sales of the impressive large shadow boxes. Depending upon the features and size, the price may start from few dollars wherein the expensive ones cost several hundreds. Large shadow boxes are the ideal choice if you wish to enjoy memorabilia but still want to preserve them securely. In some cases, there are larger-sized boxes (uniform display cases) which can even house the entire military uniform with the perfect insignia placement.
You will be able to find shallow boxes constructed with cardboard or colored paper which are typically used as enthralling alternatives for standard greeting cards. Similar to the traditional shadow boxes used in military, the paper counterparts also include window-like forms or cutouts which will expose the illustrations, dioramas, or anything that is present within the large shadow boxes.

They are very popular in the sports card industry. I have seen some large shadow boxes big enough to even display rifles and very rare art. These boxes are used as display cases as well as protection in ensuring no damage or theft can be inflicted on the products being displayed. It’s not uncommon to see these large shadow boxes even contain alarms and sensors. This really shows the versatility of what these large shadow boxes can be used for.
When choosing large shadow boxes for your intended project. You need to make sure that you have the correct measurements as to what you will be displaying. There is nothing worse than purchasing a shadow box that in the end, might not be large enough for you. The general rule of thumb should be to measure and then buy one a size larger. You can always deal with more space as opposed to one with not enough space for your intended purpose.
