For those of you looking into buying a flag case for Father’s Day…Target has one for $29.99. It’s just a standard black flag case with no hinges or latch, but beats having to order one online if your wanting one right away. It’s made to be mounted on the wall. It comes with all the hardware to be mounted to the wall. The wood is pine and finished with a black paint. The flag case is made by a company named Re style. One thing I liked about this flag case was it was simple. It had clean lines and not to over-the-top. With Fathers Day coming up might be time to start thinking about a gift.

I also noticed that Target had several shallow shadow boxes that would hold medals and military ribbons. I didn’t get a chance to snap a picture of the shadow boxes, but here is a picture of the flag case.

When shopping for a shadow box you will be faced will several different kinds. One that I have always liked and is very functional is the 4 in 1 military shadow box. It has four different compartments that can be used in a variety of uses. The one shown in this picture can be used to display a flag, medals, buttons and a picture. You can really display an overall collage of what your loved one did for his or her country. It really depends on the amount of space you may have on the wall, but if your tight…this is a very nice gift. On the other hand if you have a larger room you can get away with having individual shadow boxes that can hold these items. Again, trying to bring some insight to you guys on thinking outside the box!

Many people may not know, but you can find all types of shadow boxes at your local crafts store such as a Michaels or Joanns. There selections may not be huge and the quality is not always up to snuff, but for a quick fix they will do the job. Some even have some geared towards the military such as flag cases and medal display cases.<!–adsensestart–>Michale’s has a really cool flag case with a lower shadowbox to display medals…very in expensive and has the ability to display two items. Also what’s nice about purchasing a shadow box at one of these stores is they also sell all embellishment kits to decorate your shadowbox even more. I mean they have just about every thing you can think of to decorate you military shadow box. Some of the smaller shadowboxes will cost around $15 and the larger ones coming in around $85. The flag display cases also have a range of $20-$50 depending on the size. Again, keep in mind that the quality of these cases are on the lower grade. By lower grade I mean the aesthetically speaking they are machined made and may not be the most attractive shadowboxes on the market, but will serve the purpose to display your items without breaking the bank.

As mentioned through out my blog…choosing a shadow box should be an experience to enjoy as shadowboxes are something that’s going to be displayed for a lifetime for everyone to see. I myself love hand made military shadowboxes, but I also know that not everyone’s budget is the same. Not to mention that like myself I have kids and having a $400 military shadow box in the front room is always a gamble.

If you in the market for a cheap an in expensive shadow box…check out your local crafts store and they just might have what you need. You could possibly build military shadow boxes from scratch just with the materials in a craft store.

If your in the market for a military shadow box than your in for some digging and research. Depending on the level of knowledge you have about the soldier you are shopping for. With so many boxes out there it’s important to know a couple things before you start your search.

First and foremost you will need to know or gauge how much memorabilia will be stored or displayed in the shadow box. Knowing the content is essential and will dictate the size of military shadow boxes you need. Probably the most important item is the uniform. Many soldiers will love too display the uniform they may have warn on a certain day. Whatever the reason, the uniform will take up a bit of space and will require a larger box. Items such as medals and other small pieces tend to take up less space, so if it’s merely the recipient displaying medals, then you will be fine going with a smaller shadow box. This may sound rudimentary, but it really is a key component when shopping for military shadow boxes.

Now that you have the size, the next thing to consider is the decor of the recipients home or room that you think they will display the military shadow box in. Although some people might not mind mismatching woods, some may and it’s as simple as finding out what type of wood would go with the decor. Again, simple, but should be thought out when shopping for military shadow boxes.

Last but not least and probably the most important to you is price. There are hundreds of retailers online that sell shadow boxes, but only a few that sell military shadow boxes. Needless to say there is not a lot of information on some of the major distributors of military shadow boxes. Amazon and other large online retailers might be your best bet for reliability, but I can say that I have been a little disheartened with some of the boxes that I have purchased. Quality has been a little on the shabby end when it comes to Amazon. One alternative is having your military shadow boxes custom made. There are several online retailers that will build to your requested specifications. Just about anything else you ask…they will do. I find that these custom shadow boxes are far more superior on quality, although they are a bit more pricey than other military shadow boxes.

To commemorate 20 years of loyal service in the Armed Forces many retiring servicemen and women receive a gift which is symbolic to represent their loyal service during their Armed Forces service. This military retirement gift is well deserved and should received with honor and pride.

A shadow box is usually presented to the retiring serviceman or woman containing an American flag together with other symbolic insignia; symbolic of their role whilst in the armed forces. There are other items presented at a specially held dinner for retiring service personnel which may be the chosen gift of the person due to retire and could include a beautifully made garden seat or rocking chair with a place to inscribe service details to show that it is a commemorative gift. Other commemorative gifts have included a small occasional table inscribed with the name and service crest and dates of service of the retiring member.

A photograph can be turned into a piece of artwork, by choosing a photograph from a memorable moment during their service history members can be presented with a larger framed version in an artwork style and with a brass plaque at the bottom showing their name and dates of service. A military shadow box is perfect for this application. Thought should be given when choosing a gift for someone who is retiring from the armed forces to ensure that the gift matches the person it is being purchased for. Many service personnel who are coming up to retirement may be interested in old military memorabilia such as an old the commissioned firearm which could be inscribed with a brass plaque bearing the retiring persons name. A hobby or interest which could be something like a love of dogs or gardening or models may help when considering what would be the best present to buy. There is no doubt however that a gift to commemorate a loyal service history is one which would be treasured for a very long time.

These over-sized enclosed cases which are used in dioramas of object(s) or scene are specifically designed for allowing the light only in one angle, thus protecting the objects from direct light when placed within the large shadow boxes.
Such highly useful and elegant large shadow boxes are usually presented to military members on their retirement. These boxes will be handy in preserving many priceless objects such as medals and awards received during the military career, flags of the military services and country along with the final badge of rank.
There are many US companies which specialize in construction and/or sales of the impressive large shadow boxes. Depending upon the features and size, the price may start from few dollars wherein the expensive ones cost several hundreds. Large shadow boxes are the ideal choice if you wish to enjoy memorabilia but still want to preserve them securely. In some cases, there are larger-sized boxes (uniform display cases) which can even house the entire military uniform with the perfect insignia placement.
You will be able to find shallow boxes constructed with cardboard or colored paper which are typically used as enthralling alternatives for standard greeting cards. Similar to the traditional shadow boxes used in military, the paper counterparts also include window-like forms or cutouts which will expose the illustrations, dioramas, or anything that is present within the large shadow boxes.
You will normally see these large shadow boxes at trade shows and conventions. Vendors will display their products such as coins, trading cards, knives and even guns. They are very popular in the sports card industry. I have seen some large shadow boxes big enough to even display rifles and very rare art. These boxes are used as display cases as well as protection in ensuring no damage or theft can be inflicted on the products being displayed. It’s not uncommon to see these large shadow boxes even contain alarms and sensors. This really shows the versatility of what these large shadow boxes can be used for.
When choosing large shadow boxes for your intended project. You need to make sure that you have the correct measurements as to what you will be displaying. There is nothing worse than purchasing a shadow box that in the end, might not be large enough for you. The general rule of thumb should be to measure and then buy one a size larger. You can always deal with more space as opposed to one with not enough space for your intended purpose.

Shadow boxes are not an easy favorite without reasons; their versatility is one of the first features you would notice and they are undoubtedly better than any type of ordinary picture frame. It will not be an exaggeration to call them as miniature stages used for holding the precious items you wish to display, all credits to the depth of the shadow boxes. You will not be limited only to display flat objects or print materials, so there are endless possibilities. Apart from showcasing the valuable collections and protecting them from damages, shadow boxes offer one of the finest creative spaces even for little scenes.

You can employ shadow boxes if you are a fan of miniatures and wish to create interesting scenes. Here are few possible suggestions; in a child’s room or nursery, it will be an excellent idea to mount shadow boxes showcasing cute nursery scenes or miniature animal figures. You can even try adding stuffed animals to the shadow boxes and you are sure to witness the cute difference that will bring to your child’s room. You can choose shadow boxes of the right color to compliment the overall décor of the room.
As mentioned before, shadow box frames provide ample protection against excessive dust and light. Apart from this, it is always risky to hang breakables unprotected on the wall as there are more chances for them to fall or become ruined due to accidental jerks. Thus, if you use the shadow boxes for displaying your valuables, they are less likely to be broken or bumped accidentally.

Shadow boxes can be used for neatly displaying any number of collections and allow you to add more number of frames as per requirements. A wall covered with shadow boxes showcasing your valuable and proud collections can give the most impressive look to your room. It needs no saying that dust will be kept to minimum level and it will be possible to view you entire collection in one glance rather than placing them in a scattered manner all over the room.

If you are looking for the best appearance that your shadow boxes can sport then here is another useful tip. It will be advisable to choose the appropriate finishing for your shadow box such that it does not overpower the content present within it. Remember, you want the onlookers to notice your collections and not your shadow box.
